Old Country
We are where we are. Still, at times we think fondly of where we came from.
Maybe we think of it as the past, perhaps childhood. Sometimes we think of our beginnings, We remember what we can of our ancestors. We might have come to our present home or environment from a long ways away. We might lightly term it "the old country." But we mean no disrespect. We have simply formed a timeline that makes sense to us.
So, the old country can be an actual place, or it may suggest our way of looking at or framing the ways our ancestors lived.
The old country may be out there somewhere, but it may just as easily be somewhere within us. It may be a sense of tradition that we observe without even thinking about it.
It may be "this is the way it has always been done."
